PMMA during the Ultimate Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)
Out of the 126 cadet participants, 16 cadets were from the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy during the Ultimate Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Challenge Part 2 held at Camp Riego de Dios, Tanza, Cavite on November 15-17, 2019.
This 4-day event was hosted by the Philippine Army through the Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM) headed by ARESCOM Commander Major General Bernie Langub AFP. Other participating units were Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), Philippine Army (PA) ROTC, Philippine Navy (PN) ROTC, Philippine Air Force (PAF) ROTC, Probationary Officer Training Course, PA Officer Candidate School (OCS), PN OCS and PAF OCS.
Having the objective of promoting and strengthening the ROTC program, this event included three main events – Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) focusing on first aid rescue and high angle rescue; Modified Endurance Firing made more challenging by combat swim, one-kilometer run and 50-meter M16 rifle firing; and the Modified Obstacle Course including assembly/disassembly and firing of M16 and .45 AC Pistol.
The participants were divided into 14 composite groups with each group composed of members from different units. Group 12 garnered 2nd runner up; Group 14 bagged the 1st runner up; and Group 3 was hailed as the champion.
The PMMA participants were trained and mentored beforehand by Department of Naval Science and Tactics (DNST) Commandant LCDR Francisco Madduma together with PO1 Daniel Binauhan and PO1 Richard Natividad.
